WISCONSIN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES PROJECT
The objective of this project was to create a new state park vehicle sticker, which then expanded to a whole suite of products - a map, junior ranger patch, junior ranger activity guide, a state park product and a new state park logo.

I wanted to give the the current Devil's Lake State Park map a new, fresh look. I did so by using new fonts and working with a monocromatic color scheme that had a splash of bright blue-green.
I also posed the question: what do people really do with their map once their trip is over? Most probably throw it away. I wanted the map to not only function as a map, but to also be used as wrapping paper. This would allow a traveller to wrap a gift they bought at Devil’s Lake and take home to whomever is receiving it. It would be a free, cool way for someone to make a gift extra special.

I wanted to highlight the most landmark rock formation at Devil’s Lake - Devil’s Doorway. Many people hike for an hour just to reach it and thought it would be a great way to represent the park.

DESIGN PARAMETERS:
SUBJECT MATTER: Photographs or photo manipulations will not be accepted.
COLOR: The design is limited to four colors maximum. Black and white, if used, each count as a color. All colors must be flat and solid, with no shading, blending or halftones. There can be no colorless areas.
SHAPE AND SIZE: The design must fill the [tombstone] shape provided on the template. Final design is reduced to 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches
LETTERING: The wording which must appear on the sticker: “WISCONSIN STATE PARKS & FORESTS 2016" The typeface must be Arial bold 36 and cannot be altered, stretched, etc. The artist may arrange the lettering in any way. All wording must be used. No other wording, including the artist’s signature, may appear on the design.
NOTE: The design should be appropriate for Wisconsin and Wisconsin State Parks. Many designs are rejected because they feature snow-capped mountains or plants or animals not native to Wisconsin.

I wanted to design a product/souvenir that would not only be aesthetically pleasing, but would also double as something highly useful for anyone at Devil’s Lake: a water bottle. Since you’re almost always on your feet and participating in something active, why not have something that is also useful? If people come to Devil’s Lake to hike, rock climb, camp, etc., they are going to go to other places to be active as well. A water bottle is perfect for someone living and being active, as well as for everyday use.
